Welcome to Clyde F. Brown Elementary School

Clyde F. Brown Elementary School, home of the "Clyde Brown Bears", is a vibrant, close-knit school community that serves students in Preschool through Grade 4.  Recognized for its award-winning Spanish Immersion program in Grades 1 through 4 and designation as a Tools of the Mind Northeast Regional Model School, which proudly models exemplary early learning practices for visitors from around the nation and from Europe, Clyde F. Brown Elementary School actualizes its prior designation as a Lighthouse School in Massachusetts as students consistently meet or exceed averages on statewide tests.

The Clyde F. Brown Elementary School strives to fulfill the Millis Public Schools deeply held philosophy of personalized learning for all students.  This occurs at the elementary level through the infusion of technology in day-to-day learning, through the promotion of project-based learning at all grade levels, and through integrated curriculum that fosters inquiry-based experiences in learning STEM concepts through literacy.  These educational practices, combined with more differentiated instruction through a fully evolved Response to Intervention instructional model, provide students with an academic foundation that allows for more student voice and choice in learning processes.

Clyde F. Brown Elementary School is proud of its ability to maintain innovative programming like Spanish language programming for all students in grades Kindergarten through four (and expanded to Grade 5 at the Middle School) through FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School), as well as student participation in collaborative intercontinental language and Science learning experiences with schools in Spain and South America, providing more diversified global educational opportunities for our students.

We warmly welcome you to our school community!

Calling All Students in Grades 3 and 4!!

This year's reading project for interested third and fourth graders is called America’s Battle of the Books.  It is a national reading incentive program in which students volunteer to read books and come together in groups to test their knowledge of the books they read.  Here’s how it works:

  • Each team of 3 or 4 members has a list of 10 pre-selected books to read.   Students are responsible for reading 3 or 4 of the books on the list.Students are given their books on January 8, 2018 and the competition is held on Saturday, March 3, 2018.  Students may count "books" they have read before or that they listen to someone else read. However, they cannot count books that they have only seen on a video or a movie. They should keep a summary so they can review this information before their "battle."

  • The competition will be at the Clyde Brown School on Saturday, 3/3/2018.The competition is in the style of Family Feud and two teams compete against each other to earn points by answering questions about the books on the list.  During each round, each team competes against a different team.  At the end of the morning, points are totaled and the two teams with the most points go on to the Grand Battle after lunch.  The other teams join the audience for the Grand Battle. After the competition, an awards assembly is held.

  • Team members will have t-shirts and can have a mascot if they choose. We will be asking for a voluntary $10 donation from each participant to help with the costs of team t-shirts and materials. The books will be provided to each team.

If your child is interested in participating in America’s Battle of the Books please contact the school for the required information.  The competition is still a few months away but in order to allocate funds to purchase books, we need a head count of participants by November 17th.  Teams will be formed with an attempt to place each child with at least one of his/her friends.  For more information, please visit the Battle of the Books website  http://www.battleofthebooks.org/ .

CFB Community Service Projects: Classroom Scarecrows for the MERIT "Haunted Hayride" Fundraiser!

CFB students, with help from their teachers and families, created classroom scarecrows for the MERIT "Haunted Hayride" community event at Tangerini Farms on October 21.  Each classroom mobilized resources and support for students to collaboratively create a unique scarecrow, which was donated as part of a scarecrow raffle during the fun family event.  Special thanks go out to our teachers, students and families for helping students experience the importance of giving back to the community (and we had a lot of fun, too!).
